[#8778] Can't create pages and can't edit pages

CMSMS Version: None
Severity: Major
Resolution: Invalid
State: Closed
Summary:
Can't create pages and can't edit pages
Detailed Description:
Hi!

After an upgrade of CMSMS from 1.11.3 to 1.11.4, I tried to edit a pre-existing
page, and the browser gave me a blank page.

I deleted that page (because I thought that was a page rror) and when I tried to
create another one, the browser gave me a 404 error.

When the CMSMS' version was 1.11.3 the content pages functionality worked
correctly.

I tried to clean cache, refresh tables, etc. but the error stills.

Normally, CMSMS works very well. I have no idea why this error occurs.

Regards,

I can confirm this as well. After an incremental upgrade from 1.11.3 to 1.11.4,
I am unable to create a new page and am unable to edit any existing pages. This
is occurring on two separate installations of CMSMS.

I have cleaned the cache, performed maintenance via the 'System Maintenance'
tab, neither alleviate the issue. I will perform a clean install of 1.11.3,
create some pages, and then upgrade to 1.11.4 to see if I can re-create the
issue.

We have not been able to reproduce this issue. We think it's still related to
some oddities in templates. But until we are provided with precise steps to
reproduce the problem there is nothing we can do.

Happened to me to - worked in 1.11.3, just get blank pages after upgrade to
1.11.4. Reloaded 1.11.3 files and works fine again.

As far as precise steps - for me all it took was an upgrade to 1.11.4. What
details would you find useful?

From a fresh install of 1.11.3, creation of a few pages, than an upgrade to
1.11.4, I am unable to reproduce the issue. I am experiencing it on two of the
three CMSMS websites that I host/manage. Each of these three websites were
originally deployed on ~1.5 and routinely upgraded through each patch/iterative
update.

If I change the template, set all the pages to use the new template, I can than
create a new page or edit an existing page. If I set the template back to the
original template, I can no longer add or edit pages. I presume this has
something to do with a prior bug reported (8766) which was reported as
fixed/closed by calguy1000.

I have had a downgrade to 1.11.3 and the content->pages functionality works
again!

I've tried to work with the svn oslution and I I've couldn't fix the problem.

I'll wait for the next upgrade! :)

Thanks

no information so far to be able to reproduce this issue... therefore it's a
non isue.

OK - in my case I'm using a template (Arty : Arty) which I've been using since
1.9.4.3. After upgrading to 1.11.4 the website didn't look to good, and I was in
the process of tracking down the problem - that's when I discovered I couldn't
edit any pages.

Downgraded to 1.11.3 and was able to edit again. So, I reported the issue with
1.11.4

While back on 1.11.3, I discovered that the template I'm using uses {stylesheet}
which seems to have been replaced with {cms_stylesheet}. I made the change and
also changed the image call format to include [[root_url]] at the same time.

The website looked like its normal self after I'd made those changes.

Reupgraded to 1.11.4 and I can edit again.

So it looks like Robert's suggestion (above) that this is a problem related to
templates is correct.

However, it would be nice to have the editor provide a better clue to what it
found offensive than simply producing a blank page.

Tested upgrade, and it went well.

Could you guys provide template you are using with that page which fails?

Also if you can try to make very simple template, attach this template to the
page and try hitting submit again, does problem still occur?

So I am asking full list of your modules (one guy is enough at this point,
providing information), automated paste thing at system information.

And template that is attached to page which breaks on submit.

It's something with Smarty 3 fetching process, but without seeing template,
can't say what it is...

Only thing that was breaking this for me was line: {menu template="Arty :
smarty"}

And this was just because of template was missing, also if you turn template
caching on for menumanager, it broke, but this is already fixed in SVN, and we
know about issue.

Modules that are old:
Printing: [b]1.1.2[/b]
TreeManager: [b]0.6.0[/b]

So try removing {menu} tag and see if it fixes the problem, it should anyways.

We are aware of most of backend parsing problems, and doing as much of work to
fix all Smarty 3 related issues.

Every BR is helpful. Test what i said above, and lemme know if that was reason
in your case.

Reading the through the responses, I realised that I had not updated the
template for the two affected CMSMS installations to use {cms_stylesheet} as
opposed to the outdated {stylesheet} (the third CMSMS installation had this done
when the changed occurred many versions ago).

Making this change and pages for these two installations can now be added or
edited. Why these two were not impacted previously impacted when the originally
change to {stylesheet} syntax occurred is beyond me.

Thanks - 1.11.4  worked for me after I changed {stylesheet} to {cms_stylesheet}.

But then of course, {menu template="Arty : smarty"} resolves ok for me, maybe
it's a combination of the 2? I've included Arty: smarty beow.

I'll update the old modules as soon as I can.

Thanks for your help...

John

Here's the "Arty : smarty" template:

{repeat string="</li></ul>" times=$node->prevdepth-$node->depth}
</li>
{elseif $node->index > 0}</li>
{/if}

{if $node->current == true && $node->depth == 1}
<li><a href="{$node->url}"

John Redd: Yeah but having {stylesheet} in your templates should not cause
console crash, as it's not even loaded at the time.

Else... it's loading for parser stage some how, but i just don't see it being
possible, as i narrowed down what we load and what we don't.

Any problems? White page problems that ain't cause Menu Manager, please let me
know.

Marking this as invalid tomorrow, if there is no more info coming in. According
console crash (white page).

well, I'm running 1.11.4 with the corrected Arty template mentioned above - it
uses {cms_stylesheet}.

Runs and edits just fine.

On the admin console I select Layout / Templates then click on Arty : Arty

Editor comes up great (edittemplate.php). I change "{cms_stylesheet}" to
"stylesheet}" then click on "Submit" - I immediately get a white page.

Go back 1 page in browser history, editor is redisplayed, change "{stylesheet}
back to "{cms_stylesheet}" then click on "Submit" - saves just fine and returns
to list of templates.

I can repeat this over and over again.

Really!

Okey,

So {stylesheet} tag is killing templates, how ever problem is not in
Smarty_parser, it is in actual global object we create on every request. I don't
call this problem, but usage of removed/deprecated tag.

Thing what we changed with Stylesheet stuff to 1.11.4 is killing tag, cause tag
is trying to access invalid commands / requests indside it.

Remove tag solves problem, so it won't be loaded at any stage:

remove file CMS_ROOT/plugins/function.stylesheet.php
remove file CMS_ROOT/stylesheet.php

Tested with 1.11.4 enviroment, reproduced, and solved.

Posting this same thing to forum, so we won't be getting anymore of bug reports
due this issue.

Happy coding.

Same here !

I have updated my site to 1.11.4 and I can't edit or create some new pages now.
I've checked my default template, I don't use anymore the old tag Stylesheet.

remove {menu} tag and see if it fixes this.

If it does, build static menu

Enjoy.

Unfortunately Stikkys method did not work with my XAMPP-based 1.11.4 upgrade.

I have some additional information to contriubute:

Action: change *every* string "{stylesheet}" into "{cms_stylesheet}"

Result: none

Action: rename the two files "/plugins/function.stylesheet.php" and
"stylesheet.php"

Result: The following error message in the frontend:

Syntax Error in template "tpl_head:26" on line 3 "{stylesheet}" unknown tag
"stylesheet"

with the following "full trace" messages:

Seem to be identical to Bug 8315.

At least with me: nothing except a second doctype after div edit_content_result.

@dlen your error message indicates that you have not cleared all of the calls
to {stylesheet} from your templates.

1.  Edit all of your templates, change {stylesheet} to {cms_stylesheet}
2:  Fix your stylesheets as described in the help for {cms_stylesheet}
3:  Upgrade MenuManager.

Note: {stylesheet} was deprecated over 2 years ago. This stuff should have been
removed long ago when it wouldn't break your sites.

For me I narrowed it down to the removal of two UDT's that I had called in my
template - remove them and all works normally. I created a simple Hello World
echo UDT to see if it was my specific UDT's and the result was the same.
Apparently no UDT's can be placed in templates - or, as mine are, placed in a
GCB that is called in a template . . .

Here is where I got the generic UDT to test with - the first one:
http://docs.cmsmadesimple.org/tags/user-defined-tags/writing-a-udt

So is this a bug or by design?

I withdraw last comment. Having logged out and in, then tried again - the simple
UDT's do work . . .

My UDT's causing problems are Magpie RSS reader calls . . .

I just had this problem while upgrading to the 1.11.6 version.
When i rename in ".old" a file called "function.stylesheet.php" i have access to
the pages in the administration pannel. But i no longer have the website
working.

The only solution for me is to downgrade in 1,11,3 version (Darwin)

so problems seem to be with
a: use of the {stylesheet} tag that was deprecated in CMSMS 1.8
and
b: bad user defined tags

We have not yet seen any error messages.... this bug is 'invalid' as all changes
in the API were documented.
