I second this, i've been trying to get the categories to show with the events...
I guess the value to call the categories shoud be something like this:
{$event.event_categories}?? (when it's added to the list of smarty variables)

Isn't there any temporary workaround? i've been searching the forum and wiki but
found noting!

It surprises me this isn't avialable yet as the possibility to show in what
categories an event is listed seems like a basic feature to me...
