It would be helpful to have an API method to determine the field type so that a
different output can be generated depending on the field type. For example, I
like to put checkboxes and radio buttons inside label elements while having them
separate for other form control types (e. g. input, select); but it doesn’t have
to be limited to that, there are probably many other reasons why this could be
useful.

So yeah, please add a “type” property to the objects of the $controls array.
